NEZU ++++ 根津 Even though I have been living in Tokyo for more than three years, I was surprised on the weekend to find a whole suburb of extraordinarily interesting old temples and buildings within walking distance of my house. The place is called Nezu, and according to this site it still retains the old cordial atmosphere and history as a residential area of the common people. There are many temples around the town because, after a big fire in 1657, the temples around the Edo castle moved to this area where they could thrive, undamaged by fire. |
