漁る // a s a r u
HAVING DECIDED TO LEARN ONE JAPANESE VERB EVERY DAY, SO I CAN DROP THEM INTO FUTURE CONVERSATIONS, MY VERB FOR TODAY (February 11 2004) IS 漁る. Asaru/asarimasu, which means "hunt for, search for". It is easy for me to remember, since it sounds like "asari" (clam), which I already knew.

For example:

1. 古いモールトンを漁る>>買いますか
Furui mouroton wo asaru>>kaimasu ka.
Hunting for an old Moulton (bicycle)?>>Do you want to buy one?

2. ディスクユニオン、ブックオフ、町の古本屋のCDコーナーなどをちまちまと漁ります。
Disuku yunion, bukkuofu, machi no furuhonya no CD kounaa nado wo chima-chima to asarimasu.
Carefully and little by little, we will scour through the "Disk Union" and "Book-Off" (online retailers) and the local second-hand book CD corner, and other such places, looking for music.

3. 本を読み漁ります。
Hon wo yomiasarimasu.
To like reading many books.

4. グールはアッシール、イェソド地方の戦場跡や墓場に出没し、死体を漁ります。
Guuru wa Asshiiru, Yenedo chihou no senjouato ya bochi ni shutsubotsushi, shitai wo asarimasu.
The Guru snuck in and out of graveyards and battlefields in Ashiru and Yenedo, hunting for dead bodies.
