The region's Arabica Coffee is famous in Indonesia, and around the world.

Try to attend the Baliem Valley Festival, held around July or August.

At the right end of the Baliem Valley is the small township of Elelim, where I could stay overnight. There is a branch of the Bank of Papua (KCP) there, and a restaurant (RM Telago Biru).

A winding road leads vaguely east of Elelim (could this be the Trans-Papuan Highway?) It later follows a river through the valleys, before reaching the Baliem Valley.
