De Saint Germain ---- This is from the end of the authorative book The Study of Palmistry, which I picked up in Mumbai at one of the city's many book shops and markets, in 2005: As the author wrote in the preface of his book: "Remember that Palmistry is a language and that it has to be learned, like any other language, by gradually assimilating, first the elements -- the letters -- and then the syllables, the words, the sentences, the paragraphs, the pages, the volumes. FAST WORK, in this case, IS NO WORK AT ALL, indeed, it has destroyed the ambitions of more would-be palmists than any other mistake made by them..." So work your way through this work slowly and not too fast, to learnt the full basics, of the ancient science of Indian Palmistry: Card Sharpers ---- Long, thin fingers, often crooked. The Mount of Mercury predominant and often crossed or starred. No characteristic of the Gambler, as by very definition the Card Sharper will take no risks. Lower part of the Mount of Moon high, as it is in most criminals' hands. Catarrh of the Stomach ---- See Intestinal Troubles. Celebrity ---- See Fame and Success. Celibacy ---- A cross on the first Phalanx of the first Finger. A Line of Union turned up at the termination (if there is only one Line of Union in either hand.) Chastity Inspired by Religion ---- A fine Mount of Jupiter, with a pointed first Finger. A cross on the first Phalanx of the Third Finger. A very smooth, thin hand, with the Mounts quite insignificant, outside of Jupiter. (Eds. note: This sounds (and looks -- see the photo soon!) pretty much like the hand of my celibate parttime boss, Kobayashi-san, who foresake pleasures of the flesh to serve his religion, Soka Gakkai. The pointed first finger is usually pointed at me as he espouses Buddhist teaching! Anyway, the photo of his hands are coming soon!) Chemistry and Physics, Aptitude For ---- Second finger and Mount of Saturn finely shaped and prominent, though not exaggerated. Long knotted fingers, half thin hands. The medical stigmata (which see) are found on the Mount of Mercury. Childhood, Wretched ---- Line of Fate starting low down and much broken, crossed or twisted in its first part. Childbearing, Difficulties in (Or After) ---- The Line of Life too close to the second Phalanx of the Thumb. An Influence Line direct from the Mount of Venus to Mount of Saturn. First Bracelet of the Rascette convex in shape. Children, Death or Illness Of ---- Bars, dots, stars or islands spoiling the Lines of Children. Children, How Marked ---- Perpindicular Lines on the Percussion from the base of the Fourth Finger to the Line of Union with which they correspond. The eldest child will be the furthest away, near the Percussion. Clairvoyance ---- A soft hand, with short, smooth fingers and often a small thumb. The Mounts of Saturn, Mercury and especially the Moon, quite prominent or rayed. A good many minor cross lines. A drooping and often fragmentary Line of Head and a poor Line of Heart (representing defective circulation). A clear Line of Intuition, often islanded at the start. A Line of Liver, also islanded at the start, is read in the same way as the absence of a Line of Intuition proper. Combativeness ---- Square palm; short, smooth fingers; often spatulate tipped; broad, short nails; plenty of hair. Upper Mount of Mars predominant. Lines rather redder than Normal. A large cross in the Triangle. (This reading applies to an otherwise good hand.) Common Sense ---- Average sized hands. Nails large (broad and long) and rounded at the base. Complaint (Hereditary) ---- An island at the beginning of the Line of Life. Composer of Music ---- (See Music, Aptitude For). Add to those listed attributes a strong Mount of Mercury (for calculation) and exchange square fingers for pointed or conical digits. To be a composer, there should be less meat to the Mount of Venus than there is in the Mount of the Moon. Concentration, Lack Of ---- A weak, short Thumb. Short, smooth Fingers with a soft Palm. Mounts of Jupiter, Mercury and Mars absent of insignificant. The Mounts of the Moon, and sometimes the Sun, are generally exaggerated. Poor, drooping Line of the Head. Often confused and even crossed lines on the Mount of the Sun. Concentration, Power Of ---- Strong, long Thumb. Long, knitted fingers. Fine Mounts of Jupiter, Mercury and Lower Mars. Long and straight Line of Head. Insignificant Mount of the Moon. Constancy ---- A strong first Phalanx of the Thumb and a dominant Lower Mount of Mars. Line of Heart beginning forked into the Mount of Jupiter, which is quite prominent. A long, straight Line of Head. Mount of Venus visible but not very strong. Very little if any meat to the Mount of the Moon. Also, few if any worry lines. Constitution, Weak ---- The hand is thin, narrow, and meager. The nails are long, thin, and brittle. (Eds. note: so far it is a no-brainer, right?) The Line of Life is chained or linked. There are a number of downward branches on the Line of Life. Add to the equation a very poor Line of Liver. The state of the Lines of Head and Heart and the nature of the markings on the Mounts (all generally very low) will give you a prognosis on the cause of the weak constitution. Constitution, Well Balanced ---- Pink and mottled skin. Perfect nails. Elastic, medium thick palm. The three chief Lines long and clear, hardly redder than the skin. No worry lines. The Mounts clear of any untoward markings, but slightly bulging and very firm under touch. An excellent Line of Liver is considered essential to secure perfect health. Consumption, Tendency To ---- Very thin Palm, with long, knotty fingers. Nails long, thin, brittle, convex and fluted. Exaggerated or much lined Mount of Jupiter. Many islands on the Line of Liver. Many islands on the Line of Head. The Line of Life is sure to show many weak points if the consumptive tendency assumes fatal proportions. Conventionality, Excess Of ---- Hair on lower two phalanges of fingers. Stiff fingers, close together and sometimes slightly bent forward. Stiff, rather long first phalanx of the Thumb. The Lines of Life and Head connected for quite a while. Narrow Quadrangle, due to Line of Heart curving down abnormally toward Line of Head. Corruption, Early ---- A very strong (often double) Girdle of Venus in both hands, with crooked fingers, even as a child, and a wavy or starred Line of Heart. Often a very short, fragmentary Line of Head. Courage ---- A long Line of Heart, starting deep and high into the Mount of Jupiter, with large and firm Mounts and Plains of Mars. The First Phalanx of the Thumb is above normal and the Line of Head straight and clear. Line of Liver excellent or absent. All the lines a trifle redder than usual, indicating a generous blood. Mounts of Venus and Jupiter very fine. The Palm firm and the fingers usually long. This is not, however, an absolute indication. Cowardice ---- In a man: hands without hair. Hand thick and flabby. Nails long, thin and narrow. Fingers bent forward. Mounts of Mars and Jupiter (often Venus too) insignificant. The Mounts of Saturn and the Moon (fear) and Mercury (self-interest) exaggerated or badly rayed. The Triangle small and formed or lines much curved inwards. Crippled by Cruel Relative ---- A child crippled by the act of a cruel relative. A Line of Head broken under the Mount of Saturn; a Line of Influence from the Mount of Venus ends in a deep dot on the Line of Head on the Mount of Saturn. Otherwise, a good, intelligent hand. Critic, The Born ---- Short nails with soft palm. Fingers spatulate or square, with strong first knot. Second phalanges of all fingers and thumbs above normal. The Mount of Mercury predominant. Some Upper Mount of Mars and often a cross in the Plain of Mars. Cruelty, Instincts of Slow ---- Very small hands; hairy hands (in women). Very long, thin fingers, with a small palm. The Mounts of Saturn and the Moon strangely developed. Surprisingly insignificant Mount of Mars. Mount of Venus and Line of Heart often absent. ] Cruelty, Violent ---- See Brute Animality. Curiosity ---- Struggling fingers, very flexible and showing light between them; short nails. Mounts of the Sun, Moon and Mars predominant. Many worry lines.
