It appears "jiu" is like "shu" in Japanese (meaning "alcohol"). Beer, called <em>biiru</em> in Japanese, is called <em>pijiu</em> in Chinese (of course, many Asians pronounce "b" and "p" the same way, or even "shu" and "ju" the same). <p>
