MEDIA ARE THE CHANNELS OF EXCHANGE BETWEEN SOVEREIGN BEINGS. Money is a medium, as is music.

More specifically, mass media is defined as instruments of communication, and the giving and receiving of meaning. Like language, the media is a tool that we use to communicate and make sense of the world, but it can also shape our understanding and interpretation of events and issues in ways that may not be fully objective or neutral.

According to Jean Baudrillard, hot media are forms of media that are more immersive and engaging, and that require more attention and participation from the audience. Hot media are characterized by their ability to create a more intimate and interactive experience for the audience, and they tend to be more direct and influential in their impact on the audience. social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allow users to engage with others through commenting, liking, and sharing content, which can create a more interactive and engaging experience.

SOCIAL MEDIA IS HOT

A CYNIC might say that social media cater to different Classical sins: Twitter is for anger, Facebook for envy, Instagram for Pride, and so on. Nonetheless, they are hot, and the pose a threat to the traditional mass media. It was my hope back in the 1990s that the nascent World Wide Web would lead to the rise of citizen journalism. It didn't quite work out like that, but nonetheless, institutions like print media were decimated. Newspapers that once had published their content for free online set up paywalls, forcing you to subscribe to their publication in order to access. I never liked that at the time, although I have slowly come around. American journalist Jeff Jarvis has argued that paywalls can create an uneven playing field in the media industry, as they can give an advantage to larger, more established news organizations that already have a large audience and are more likely to be able to generate revenue from paywalls. This can make it harder for smaller, independent news outlets to compete and survive in a digital media landscape.

Strangely enough, the British Guardian newspaper has never gone a paywall. Go figure.
